The Rangers Are Done Being Underdogs

Image
The New York Rangers’ season ended on Saturday night with a 2-1 loss to the Lightning, and it’s only natural to feel like they let something slip away. They won the first two games of the Eastern Conference Final while playing their best hockey of the year, then jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Game 3 before Tampa Bay took command and never let up. There are some moments that will haunt fans all summer: Ryan Strome whiffing on the puck with a wide-open in net in Game 5, the deflating Jacob Trouba penalty that disrupted a four-minute power play in the third period of Game 3, or the long-range Steven Stamkos shot that beat Igor Shesterkin for the Lightning’s first goal in Game 6 — a weaker shot than any number of ones Shesterkin successfully turned away. Tampa Bay won four straight games and deserved every one of them; by the end of the series they were a clear step faster than the Rangers. (Maybe two steps.) But it wouldn’t have taken much to swing the series the other way, or at...

Joker 2 confirmed by director Todd Phillips

Image
Along with Phillips’ script photo, he also included a picture of the Joker himself, Joaquin Phoenix reading the script. This seemingly confirms that Phoenix will be back to reprise his role in the sequel to the 2019 film. Also returning for the sequel is Phillips’ co-writer Scott Silver, whose credit appears on the script for the sequel Another unknown for Joker 2 is what exactly the plot might be. The script’s title of Joker: Folie à Deux is a psychological term that refers to a mental disorder affecting two or more individuals, usually in the same family. Based on the plot of the first movie, and that Thomas Wayne could be Joker’s real father, it’s entirely possible that this movie could introduce Batman and connect him to the Joker with the Folie à Deux idea, suggesting a connection that’s even more than familial. Of course, to know for sure what the movie will be about, we’ll have to wait for a bit more information.

Bad news for everyone living in a society: Joker 2 has a script and a working title

Image
Last May, we heard that Joker director Todd Phillips was co-writing a potential Joker sequel, something that came as a bit of a surprise since nobody involved had given any indication that they were planning to make more Joker movies. The first film, of course, is one of the most shocking and dangerous comic book movies ever made, one that dared to rip apart the very fabric of our society by investigating the twisted mind of a man who reacts to wanton violence with a smile. It was also a little silly and very self-serious. But hey, that bit with him standing on top of a car in the middle of a riot and painting a smile on his face with blood is something that the Joker would do. That was well done! Today, Phillips took to Instagram to offer the first real confirmation that a Joker sequel is in the cards (joker cards), sharing an image of the cover of the script he co-wrote with Scott Silver and a photo of Joaquin Phoenix (who won an Oscar for the first one) reading the scrip...
